Little Kind Changes

The trend in "greener" alternatives has most of us acting more socially responsible as consumers. We've been making little changes in our lives in an attempt to leave less of a carbon footprint. I've blogged about building a compost recently, and yesterday I was pleased to make another earth friendly change. I've always used disposable air filters without giving much thought about adding yet more garbage to landfills. Now that I'm more aware of my environmental impact, I was thrilled to find a reusable cut-to-fit filter that would not only save me money on replacement filters but is kinder to the earth by reducing landfill consumption.

Knowledge is key to reducing our share of resources. When I noticed our family's recycle bin was overflowing days before pick-up time, I knew we needed to eliminate bad habits such as buying bottled water in those little, disposable, plastic containers. It surprises me that by simply paying attention to our prolonged pattern of over-consumption, one can make so many positive changes. Just one small change seems to lead a chain-reaction of socially conscious action.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
