My Kindness Story

I was searching the Internet for something to get my mom for mother's day and came upon your site. You may ask how, well my mother is in love with the word "kindness", she not only thinks that it is a very important virtue she says that it is so hard to find things that say or stand for kindness. So every holiday/birthday I search the internet for "kindness" things. Once I found your site I knew that I had my gift!!!! After I ordered hers I was reading around on the site and that's when my own request formed. This year I will turn 30 years old, and needless to say I have not been exempt from the 30-blues...my dilemma has been that I haven't felt that I have accomplished anything exceptional or out of the ordinary, not that I don't appreciate everything I have in my life...like my degree, my career, my husband and wonderful kids, but I wanted something that took initiative and extra effort, so my plan hit me as I was registering my cousin and our daughters for the Susan G Komen walk in Oklahoma City last October. My grandmother, Patty Hix, was a breast cancer survivor, so I have always been a supporter of the cause, I thought that it would be a wonderful tradition to start walking with my daughter and my cousin and her daughter in memory of my grandmother. As I was on the site I noticed a link for the Breast Cancer 3-day, as I read more about it, I thought here it is....my something!!!! A better event couldn't have been found, not only do I get to raise massive amounts of money for breast cancer support, I also get to honor the memory of my grandmother and have something to be proud of accomplishing....I mean 60 miles in 3 days is HUGE!!!! Anyways, how this ties in to a string ring is.....as I thought about which color I would want in my string ring I sent an email asking Tina to create a special ring.....I asked for one with pink and teal string in it!!!! Why, you ask....well as I said my grandmother was a breast cancer survivor, but soon after her all clear diagnosis she was diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer and succumbed to the disease after a long and painful battle. It was the worst time of my life....hence the request of pink (breast cancer support) and teal (ovarian cancer support). This year would have been my grandmother's 80th birthday, so to have something to display what she meant to me and a reason to be able to tell her story any time anyone asked about my ring would be amazing!!!! Thanks for allowing me to share my story...please feel free to check out my personal page on www.the3day.org, click on the Donate link and search for my name, I will be walking in the Dallas/Ft.
